Join us as we combine our love for the rich history and culture of Oakland, CA through a lens of the Black experience!

As the center for the "Black Renaissance of the West" in the 1960's and 70's, Oakland used to be considered an epicenter for the Black experience in the United States. From a bustling population of 47% Black residents to our current demographic of just over 23%, the changing tide of the city has seriously effected the Black population for a number of reasons.

We will explore more about the history and culture of Black Oakland in this hybrid walking-mobile tour, designed to highlight the contributions of past and present movements within and beyond the Black community. Because of the mobile nature of this tour, there is a 5 person minimum.

This tour is about more than just the Oakland you see on the news 😉

In this 3- hour hybrid mobile- walking tour, we'll peruse different neighborhoods each spanning West, East, North Oakland, exploring the physical and social locations of landmarks in the Black community.

You'll have the opportunity to appreciate locals and businesses and the food, art, sights and relationships they have built over decades in partnership with community members, local government and developers. Along the way we'll visit some of the foundational Black businesses in Oakland and have the opportunity to sample some tasty bites.

By the end of the tour you'll have explored more than 100 years of Oakland history, spanning from the Renaissance of the 1960s to the hyphy movement of the 2000s and beyond!

Acacia is your proud guide and is excited to show the world the local places she has called home for a lifetime. After having been displaced from Oakland in childhood, she returned to the town and began working with local communities to support the cultural, social and economic empowerment of the people.

Having been a teacher at Castlemont High School gave her much insight into community development through education, and she is taking her experience in economic and community development and cultural tourism to share with you the incomparable and unique gems her city has to offer the world!
